Louise Haigh MP Welcomes 7% cut to the Energy Price Cap

Today, Louise Haigh MP has welcomed confirmation from Ofgem that the energy price cap will fall by 7% from April, cutting household bills by an average of £117.

The reduction comes as families across Sheffield Heeley and the wider country continue to face pressure from the cost of living. Energy costs have consistently been one of the most common concerns raised with Louise by local residents over the past two years.

The Government has confirmed that the cut has been made possible by decisions taken at the Budget to fund vital cost of living support.

The change follows the expansion of the Warm Home Discount, which has provided nearly six million households with £150 off their energy bills this winter, delivering targeted help to those most in need.

Alongside bringing down bills, the Government is also acting to strengthen consumer protections. Measures include action to reduce standing charges, acting on the forced installation of prepayment meters, and making automatic compensation from energy companies quicker and easier when standards are not met.

Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley said:

“I know that energy bills have been one of the biggest financial worries for families I speak to every week.

“Today’s 7% cut to the price cap will provide welcome relief at a time when every pound counts.

“There’s more to do, but this is a step in the right direction for households who’ve been under pressure for far too long.”
