It is a profound relief and incredibly welcome that a peace deal has finally been reached between Israel and Hamas, bringing an immediate ceasefire, the flow of humanitarian aid and the return of hostages and prisoners on both sides.
I was in Shatila, a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, when the news of the ceasefire broke, and prayers were recited in response; it was an incredibly moving experience to be amongst Palestinians as they heard the news.
This agreement has come after two years of utter horror in Gaza and will finally reunite the Israeli hostages with their loved ones, who have been held since the October 7th attack.
As Gaza begins to rebuild, it’s vital that its people get the support they need and that this deal marks the start of a future where such devastation is never repeated.
